Privacy Policy and Legal Notice — PDF Sauna

This Privacy Policy explains how Extraterrestrial Games ("we", "us") handles information when you use PDF Sauna at https://pdfsauna.com (the "Service").

1. Summary

  • Your files stay on your device. All PDF processing happens locally in your browser. We never upload, see, or store your documents.
  • There are no accounts and no sign-in.
  • The Service shows ads from Google AdSense, which may use cookies. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent first.

2. Who is responsible

The data controller is Extraterrestrial Games, a sole trader registered in Finland (Business ID 3499742-7), Tesmakuja 2, 13300 Hämeenlinna, Finland. You can reach us at contact@pdfsauna.com.

3. Your documents

All document processing (merging, splitting, converting, compressing and similar tools) runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files are never sent to our servers and we never store them. When you close or reload the page, the files are no longer held by the Service.

4. Information we collect

We don't run our own backend, analytics, or server logs, and we don't ask you for any personal information.

  • Hosting. The Service is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. When you visit, Cloudflare automatically processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type (user agent), and request details to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Cloudflare keeps this under its own retention practices; see the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
  • Data stored in your browser. The Service stores a few things on your own device so it works quickly and offline: your interface language choice (we pick it from your browser's language settings the first time, and save it in local storage if you change it), a cache of the app's own files (through a service worker), and, if you use OCR (text recognition), the OCR language data you downloaded (in IndexedDB). None of this contains your documents and none of it is sent to us. You can delete it anytime by clearing your browser's site data.

5. Advertising and cookies

We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners may use cookies, device identifiers, and similar technologies to show ads, including personalized ads based on your visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance.

  • If you're in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent through Google's consent management tool (Google Privacy & Messaging, certified under the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework) before personalized ads or non-essential cookies are used. You can change or withdraw your choice anytime through the privacy button shown on every page.

6. Legal bases (EEA/UK)

  • Providing and securing the website (Cloudflare hosting): our legitimate interest in running a secure, working Service.
  • Ads cookies and personalized ads: your consent.
  • Saving your language preference: necessary to provide the feature you chose.

7. Sharing and international transfers

We never see or share your documents. The Google ads on this site let Google and its partners collect identifiers and browsing data through cookies to show and measure ads, and some privacy laws treat that as "selling" or "sharing" personal data. You can limit this through the consent controls in section 5. Data is processed by Cloudflare (hosting) and Google (advertising). These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under safeguards such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. Retention

We don't keep your documents or any personal data ourselves. Data processed by Cloudflare and Google is kept according to their own policies. Your language preference stays in your browser until you clear it.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or California law), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal data, to object to processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. In Finland, that is the Data Protection Ombudsman. Since we hold no personal data ourselves, most requests are best handled by Cloudflare or Google, but you can contact us at contact@pdfsauna.com and we'll help.

California and other US state residents: letting Google use ad cookies for personalized ads may count as "selling" or "sharing" personal information under your state's law. You can opt out by turning on the Global Privacy Control setting in your browser, which we honor automatically, or through the privacy button shown on every page, or Google's Ad Settings.

10. Children

The Service isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data.

11. Changes

We may update this policy. We'll post the new version here and change the "Last updated" date.
